Website and digital design in the Milwaukee area

I design websites and the digital pieces around them for businesses and marketing teams in the Milwaukee area and across the Midwest. Most of this work is websites and landing pages. I also design social and ad templates, pitch decks and infographics, and I take on app and product interface work when a project needs it. I'm Keegan Gunnlaugsson, an independent designer in Elm Grove, Wisconsin.

Working together

How it goes

A small business website of five to ten pages usually takes six to ten weeks. A landing page takes one to three. [Timelines to confirm.]

Weeks one and two: the plan. We agree on who the site is for and what you want them to do. Then I map the pages and the question each one has to answer. If you have a site now, I look at what people use on it and which pages search engines already send them to.

Weeks three to five: design. I design the homepage and one inner page first, with your real words in them, so we settle the look on actual content. The rest of the pages follow. Two rounds of revisions are included [suggested, to confirm].

Weeks six to eight: build. I build the site [platform to confirm], connect the forms, write the page titles and descriptions for search, and test it on phones and slow connections. You get a walkthrough, so you can change text and photos yourself.

Launch. We point your domain at the new site, set up redirects from any old addresses, and check every page once it’s live.

Templates, decks and infographics follow the same steps on a shorter calendar, usually one to three weeks [to confirm].

What I’ll need from you

  • Your words, or time to work on them with me. Copy is what most often holds a website up, so it helps to start early.
  • Your logo, your brand files and the best photos you have.
  • Access to your domain, your current site and any tools the site connects to, like your CRM or email service.

What you get at the end

  • A working site you can edit, and a short recorded walkthrough of how.
  • The design files, so another designer can pick up where I left off.
  • The basic search setup: page titles, descriptions, a sitemap and structured data.
  • For templates and decks, editable files in the tool your team uses, such as PowerPoint or Canva.

Your domain, hosting and site accounts stay in your name. The site and the files are yours once the project is paid in full. [Confirm ownership terms for your contract.]

Questions

Questions about digital and web

What does a website cost?

A small business website of five to ten pages, designed and built, starts at $5,000. A landing page starts at $1,200, social and ad templates at $750, and a pitch deck at $1,800. [All prices suggested, to confirm.] Hosting and your domain are separate, and you pay for those directly.

How long does a website take?

Six to ten weeks for a small business site, and one to three weeks for a landing page [to confirm]. The words are what most often hold a site up, so the sooner we start on them, the sooner it launches.

What do you build websites on?

[Platform or platforms, to confirm.] I'll recommend one based on who will edit the site and how often, and I'll tell you what it costs to run each month before you decide.

Can you redesign the site I already have?

Yes. I start with what's working on your current site. I keep the pages people already find through search, and I redirect old addresses so links to them still land somewhere useful.

Who owns the website?

You do. The domain, hosting and site accounts stay in your name from the start, and the design files are yours once the project is paid in full. [Confirm ownership terms for your contract.]

Do you work with clients outside the Milwaukee area?

Yes. Web projects work well remotely. We meet over video, and you review pages in your browser as they come together. If you're near Elm Grove, I'm glad to meet in person too.
